Travel details

There are two options for travel.

Option One:  Travel with the group to China

This will be the easiest and cheapest flight option. If there is sufficient interest, we will be coordinating a group flight from the DC area to Beijing, and returning to DC from Shanghai.  This will also include a group transfer from the airport to the hotel in Beijing and to the airport from Shanghai.

Departing from DC on October 7
Returning to the DC either Oct 22 or Oct 30.

Estimated cost: between  $1100-1400 per person

Option Two:  Arrange your own flights to China and meet at the hotel in Beijing.

This would be the best option for those who choose to extend your stay in Asia after the conclusion of our trip. I will provide you with the address and name of our hotel in Chinese, and once you arrive in Beijing, clear customs and change money you may take a metered taxi to meet us at the hotel.

Current costs for international airline tickets from DC to Beijing, and returning from Shanghai are in the 1300-1500 range, subject to change due to rising gasoline costs.

A taxi from the Beijing airport to the hotel will cost about 30-50 dollars.

What to expect on the trip over

If you choose to travel with the group, we will meet at the airport for  our flight. We will arrive in Beijing on October 8th, transfer to the hotel and have the rest of the day or evening free to rest. 

There is a 12-hour time difference between DC and China, so there will be plenty of jetlag to go around!  We will take the first few days easy to allow you to adjust to the time difference.
